      Use Cases

To get a better understanding of how and when to use the wheel of fortune, refer to Use Cases for App Wheel of Fortune.

Wheel of Fortune is one of Insider's most popular lead collection templates, used by hundreds of partners. Users are presented with an opportunity to spin the wheel and win a prize. In exchange, you can ask users to provide lead information, like an email address.

The Wheel of Fortune gamifies marketing, making it more engaging for users, and easier for marketers to collect leads, offer coupon codes, and provide a delightful app experience.

You should complete the following steps to launch a campaign with the Wheel of Fortune template:

      1. Create a Campaign

      1. Navigate to Experience > Optimize > App Templates.

      2. Click the Create to start creating your campaign.

      3. Select the Wheel of Fortune template.

This template consists of two pages: Content page and Coupon page.
      4. The lead generation element is optional. You can require your users to leave their leads or not.

You can also toggle on the Use Full Screen option. This option extends your design to the status bar and the bottom of the screen on iOS devices using SDK version 12.1.0 or over, and lets you utilize the entire screen.

If you choose to add it, you can adjust the style properties (e.g. background color, input font, validation text, etc.).

      5. You can add a Policy element with a link to your policy page.

It is strongly recommended to make the policy required.

      6. You can customize the Spin button that users will use to spin the wheel.

      7. The wheel and its slices are customizable. You can choose 4, 6, or 8 slices, and one winner slice. The winner slice is the slice the wheel stops spinning at. Click each slice to customize them.

You can add variants to your campaign to have different winner slices in each variant. This way, you can create a selection of multiple winners.

Well done! You've completed the content page.  To customize the coupon page, select the elements you want to add, remove, or adjust in the left menu.

      8. Go to the Coupon Page to click the Coupon Settings button. Follow the steps on Coupon Management to add coupons to your campaign.

      9. Wheel of Fortune can have a second button, and this button can have different actions.

You can configure different actions for the close button. The respective action will also be applicable by default on the close function on the screen overlay tap.

      • Dismiss: Closes the template.
      • Deep Link:  Redirects users to another page. It works on both internal and external links.
      • Push Permission: Helps app owners ask for push permission (on iOS) wit Insider's App Templates. If a push permission pops up once, it will never be shown again. This is due to the limitations of the operating system, not to bother the user too much.
      • Open Settings: Takes the user to the settings of the app at the OS level. If users disabled push notifications or location services before, they can enable them from these settings.
      • Feedback: Opens the default app rating prompt on the application.

Push permission allows the app owner to trigger a native push permission popup on iOS. You can prompt each user only once with this popup. If a user clicks it multiple times, no popup will be prompted again. You can set the re-eligibility to 1 to create a campaign a user will see only once, and redirect users to a page where you can ask them if they want to opt in for push notifications.

Open Settings option opens the settings page of the app. Unlike push permission, this can be triggered multiple times. If a user opens their app settings via this option, they can configure their app notification details and settings, consent for cameras, microphone etc. You can ask your users for permissions via an inApp and redirect them to the settings page.

If you toggle on the Coupon Code, the Copy button helps users copy the coupon code given in the InApp text to the phone’s clipboard. They can then easily paste the code to a dedicated place.

Apple allows applications to display the app rating prompt to their users up to 3 times in 365 days.
Google suggests against excessive usage of app rating prompt.

      10. Apart from the click behaviors, buttons have different capabilities.

      • Tag Event: Allows you to tag (trigger) an event when the respective button is clicked. This event does not have to be predefined. These events can be used for segmentation later.  When you’re entering the event name, you need to make sure the event name consists of English-only characters, is lowercase, and underscored instead of a space.
      • Set User Attribute: Allows you to set a specific attribute for the user who clicked on the respective button. You can either select from an existing attribute or create a new one. Either way, you need to enter a value for the attribute. This means that whenever the user taps on the button, this attribute will be set with the given value for that user.

      FAQ

Q: Can we give out coupon codes without asking users to leave their email addresses on Wheel of Fortune?
A: Yes, you can. When the Lead Collection toggle is off, Wheel of Fortune does not ask users to leave their email addresses.

Q: Can we assign the winner slice on Wheel of Fortune randomly?
A: No, you must assign one winner slice for each wheel.

Q: How does the Wheel of Fortune work? Are the coupon codes considered as used when users click the Copy button?
A: The flow functions as the same way In-Apps do. You can either display Wheel of Fortune when a session starts or when a particular event is performed. When there is no coupon code left, the campaign stops displaying. Coupon codes are considered as used when the campaign receives an impression no matter they are actually applied or not.

Q: Is it possible to assign multiple winner slices and set their probability ratio?
A: It is doable to set up multiple winners if you create more than one variants.

Q: Why are there only 4, 6, or 8 slices in Wheel of Fortune?
A: This helps split the wheel proportionally.

Q: What will happen when there is no coupon code left?
A: The campaign will not be visible to any users anymore.
