Product recommendations are the key elements for the growth purpose of a website and they are extremely effective when they are personalized accurately. To increase the accuracy of personalization, Web Smart Recommender is enriched with dynamic product exclusions which are designed for specific exclusion scenarios for an easy configuration.
With dynamic product exclusion, you can exclude some products from recommendations based on the dynamic user data. You can exclude specific products such as already discovered products or products about to be sold. This elective ability enables you to increase the discovery of new products or the conversion rate.
This article covers the answers to the following questions:
- How can I exclude the recently purchased items?
- How can I exclude the recently viewed items?
- How can I exclude the products in the cart?
Dynamic product exclusions are available for both API-Based Web Smart Recommender and Web Smart Recommender campaign strategy settings.
- Web Smart Recommender
You can manage the exclusions via the Recommendation Settings.
1. Create a Web Smart Recommender campaign.
2. In the Design step, add or edit a variant.
3. Add your Smart Recommender widget.
4. Click the Recommendation Settings button to configure your exclusions.
- API-Based Web Smart Recommender
You can manage the exclusions via the add / edit variant prompt.
1. Create an API-Based Web Smart Recommender campaign.
2. In the Design step, add or edit a variant.
3. Click the Recommendation Settings to configure your exclusions.
Exclude Recently Purchased Items
This exclusion type aims to exclude recently purchased items from recommendations, as the user already has the same product in their stock. Since product stock renewal periods vary, you can select a period or item count while configuring the recently purchased product exclusion.
To configure your exclusions, select one of the following types:
- Exclusion of recently purchased products in a period: The period is configured as 1 - 30 days or 1-4 weeks and its default value is 7 days.
- Exclusion of recently last X purchased products: The number of last X items is configured as 1- 100 and its default value is 10.
Exclude Recently Viewed Items
This type of exclusion targets excluding recently viewed items from recommendations to avoid offering a product that users have already discovered and viewed. It's valuable in scenarios where the goal is to increase product discovery in large product portfolios
To configure your exclusions, select one of the following types:
- Exclusion of recently viewed products in a period: The period is configured as 1 - 30 days or 1-4 weeks and its default value is 7 days.
- Exclusion of recently last X viewed products: The number of last X items is configured as 1- 100 and its default value is 10.
Exclude Products in Cart
This type of exclusion targets excluding the products already added to the shopping cart.
